CTS Macao, a Journey of Trust

        1.The Beginning of the Journey (1961—1966)

Many citizens have no idea how many travel agencies there are in Macau, however, they know the emblem of a red five-pointed star with a character“旅” in the center and “Macau” at the bottom. When they want to participate in a travel group, apply for permits to travel to mainland China, request hotel room or airline ticket reservation services, car rental and laundry services, CTS is always a good choice for them. As a symbol of tourism and certificate application, the CTS has been deeply rooted in the minds of Macao residents.

Today, CTS has a history of more than 50 years, during which those employees had dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to contributing to the development of the company. Through 50 years of operation, the CTS brand has become increasingly shining.

According to the State's instruction to settle overseas Chinese returning to the country, the establishment of CTS began in June 1961. Since its founding, the Company has been in charge of political and social responsibilities, actively cooperating with public entities to comply with national policies, and has performed specific tasks, such as providing travel services to mainland China to the citizens of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas Chinese, and receiving foreigners and overseas Chinese that intends to enter mainland China via Macao. Regarding the communication between the mainland of China and Taiwan, CTS has been in charge of the tasks of receiving important customers from Taiwan who intended to enter the Chinese mainland via Macau, actively cooperating with the relevant departments in order to develop well the business in Taiwan. CTS has always played an important role in the development of relations between the mainland China and Taiwan, and has served as a bridge in strengthening communication between the two sides. During the first decade after its founding, CTS has received numerous Chinese abroad and foreigners and has been well known and applauded for our good quality service, earning a good reputation in Southeast Asia. In 1964, the Company was incorporated and became the branch of China Travel Service (Hong Kong).

2. Transformation and development of the Company (1966—1980)

In the early 1970s, in addition to specific reception services, CTS began to actively develop tourism businesses with more diversity, in keeping with market demand and trends. Through this transformation, the business sphere was expanded and the strength of the Company increased. In 1978, CTS took advantage of the valuable opportunity of the Reform and Opening and the special role of the MSAR to develop tourism businesses of all aspects. In September 1979, CTS was entrusted by the Ministry of Public Security to deal with "Continental Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents" for Macao residents. In the same year, CTS Macau became independent from CTS Hong Kong. In addition to providing tourism to compatriots from Hong Kong, Macau, overseas Chinese and foreigners, the Company has set up reception stations to receive customer demands for traveling to Mainland China via Macau. In addition, it conducted national and international tourism businesses of all sizes. In order to facilitate the travel of compatriots to the Chinese continent, a fleet of tourist buses was created and a tourist route was opened for the first time that connected Macau with Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and other cities in the Pearl River Delta, which provided comprehensive one-stop services for compatriot and foreign tourists. For this reason, CTS Macao was well applauded by customers, who commented that when they entered Macau, they were truly satisfied with the impeccable and excellent service provided by CTS.

3. The first leap - the diversified development (1980—1993)

In the 1980s, with the continued expansion of Chinese economic reform, Macao began to make more and more comercial exchanges with cities in the Pearl River Delta region, especially with the neighboring Zhuhai Special Economic Zone. Thus a tendency to travel to Macau arose. Thousands of mainland tourists want to visit this small city with mixed characteristics of Chinese and Western cultures and its style of "Eastern Las Vegas". The CTS Macao has become one of the competent agencies to host group tours in Macao.  In 1983, the company officially registered the trademark of “CHINA TRAVEL SERVICE (MACAU) LIMITED”. As the business sphere continued to widen and the number of service objects continued to increase, the scale of the company and the number of personnel increased a lot, and the internal organizational structure was also expanding. The company became increasingly business diversified and international. The company operated several three and four star hotels in Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China, and established many subsidiaries covering the hotel, construction, trade and passenger transport industry. The business involved overseas hotels, Hong Kong travel agencies, mainland China travel agencies, laundry, transportation, decoration and other industries. With more than 110 different sized tourist vehicles and more than 1,500 registered employees, CTS Macao became the largest and biggest travel agency in Macau with comprehensive equipments and facilities. In 1991, CTS Macao celebrated its 30th birthday. With the unremitting efforts of 30 years, the Company achieved great success and progress, at the same time, it made an enormous contribution to the development of Macao's tourism industry. For this reason, on June 10, 1991, the former governor of Macau, General Vasco Joaquim Rocha Vieira awarded the Company with the “Order of Merit in Traveling”for honoring CTS for its excellent contribution in this area.

In May 1992, CTS Macao was entrusted by the National Ministry of Public Security to handle the request for “Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents”.

4. The Second leap - the comprehensive development (1993—2002)

Due to the constant development, in 1992, the address of the Company moved to the Xinhua building on Nagasaki Street. In September 1993, on the basis of CTS and Yau Lu en Co., the CTS Group was founded. With the scale increase, the business became more diversified. The scope includes tourism, hotel and catering, real estate, trade, automobile integration, laundry, home appliances, etc. With 28 subsidiaries and numerous property managed hotels spread across Canada, Hong Kong and inland cities. like Guilin, Guangzhou and Zhuhai, the CTS Macao became a very strong and competitive travel agency in Macau.

In the process of evolution and accumulation of economic benefits, the Company actively took on the responsibility of serving society in Macau. In the post-transition period of Macau, the CTS Macao actively participated in social activities and fulfilled his corporate social responsibility. During the Macao Return period, using the Company's favorable resources and the special status of the Xinhua News Agency Macao branch, CTS Macao did its best to complete the reception and security tasks of the central head of PRC, honor guards of the Three Armies, the Military Orchestra etc., and achieved success in all tasks. The Company's performance was not only praised by the superior, but also by the public.

Over the years, CTS Macau has adhered to the principle of “based in Macau, connect with the mainland, face the world, and strive to promote the tourism industry in Macau”, providing comprehensive services to people from Worldwide. The company has been constantly contributing to the development of Macau's economy and tourism. For this reason, in December 2001, CTS Macao once again won the “Order of Merit in Traveling”, issued by Dr. Edmund Ho Hau wah, Chief Executive of Macao SAR.

5. The third leap - the company's greatest progress (2003—2018)

After the transfer of sovereighty of Macao, with the support of the PRC Central Government, the Macao SAR Government actively promoted the economic development policy of "Tourism and gaming industry as predominance, services as a subject and the coordinated development of other industries". To stimulate Macao's economic development, the country introduced a policy of individual travel, which effectively promoted the rapid growth of Macao's gaming industry and created unlimited business opportunities for tourism development.

In July 2003, according to the approval by the higher competent authorities, CTS Macau became a secondary company of Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited. After the business restructuring and the internal institutional adjustment, the Company's atual businesses encompass four sectors, which are tourism services, conference and exhibition services, application of travel permits and passenger transport. CTS Macao moved to the Nam Kwong building on Avenida Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues. To continue with the advantage of the original brand, the name of the Company“China Travel Service (Macao) Ltd." was maintained. Under the leadership of the Nam Kwong Group, CTS Macau established the core corporate values of “In search of development, emphasizing integrity and honesty and result oriented”. Facing the new opportunities of rapid economic development and the challenges of opening tourism market after the return of Macao, CTS Macao has adhered to the principle of “giving back to society with the best”, with the glorious tradition of moving forward and working hard , Implements the concept of scientific development comprehensively and consciously follows the rules of the company's development. Taking reform as a driving force, management as a base, the market and customer demand as a guide, with an innovative spirit and the courage to practice in formulating corporate planning, a policy of "develop the tourism sector, guarantee the authorization sector, foster the passenger transport sector, and cultivate the conference and exhibition sector" is clarified. In other words, based on the guarantee of authorization business, CTS Macau intends to optimize the tourism service, develop the passenger transport business in a solid way, and actively cultivate the conference and exhibition business, trying to achieve the objective of become a travel agency with the largest scale, more service objects and large market share, operating profit and high profitability in Macau, and with greater influence and competitiveness in the tourism sector in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and in the Pearl River Delta region.

After the merger, CTS Macao makes full use of the Group's advantages and resources, focusing on the Nam Kwong Group's development objective, takes advantage of the favorable business opportunities of Macao's rapid economic growth and strives to build and improve its core competitiveness. In 2004, CTS Macao acquired Macao Overseas Travel Agency. in 2005 and 2006, it established Zhuhai China Travel Service (MACAU) Investment Consulting Co., Ltd. and Zhuhai China Travel Service (MACAU) Tourism Co., Ltd. In 2008, it formally established a joint venture Macao CTS Passenger Road Transport Company Limited with Hong Kong China Travel Service Co., Ltd. to operate cross-border bus business; in 2010, it acquired 80% of the Sociedade de Transportes Coletives de Macau(TCM); in the same year, it became the shareholder company of Zhuhai Jiuzhou Travel & Transport Co., Ltd., jointly operating the bus business in Macau. In 2014, Macau Nova Era de Autocarros Públicos, S. A (Nova Era) was founded to operate the second and fifth bus sections of Macau's public road transport, thus CTS Macao became the largest land transport service provider based in Macau. In 2015, through the integration of internal resources, CTS Macau increased its retail services and professional laundry services business, and its business scale was further expanded. In 2018, with the incorporation of Nova Era to TCM, the latter became the largest public transport service provider in Macau. In the same year, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge was opened. CTS participated in the operation of cross-border bus between Hong Kong and Macau, and the passenger transport services sector was expanded.

Currently, CTS Macau has a total of 9 wholly owned subsidiaries, 6 holding companies and several participating companies.

Recalling the past, CTS Macao own a long history of 57-year, in which it experienced ups and downs. Today, the Company is ready to see its future in this new era.
